This was complicated by chronic infection you can see in the lymphedema photo before therapy - his skin was open and draining. He had been treated at another facility in Florida for months and his infection was MRSA - the resistant staph infection that you read about in the papers - we cultured his wounds when he came for evaluation and then prescribed the appropriate antibiotic that the bacteria was sensitive to and the infection resolved as showen in the lymphedema picture after therapy. No one had done that previously. Pictures of Lymphedema and CellulitisCellulitis is an infection of the skin. Individuals with lymphedema or at risk for lymphedema from lymph node dissection/radiation are at risk for cellulitis in their involved or at risk extremity. Cellulitis can look different in different individuals, as dipicted in the lymphedema images below, and even different each time it occurs in the same person. Symptoms can include redness, heat, pain, swelling, lymph leakage, skin breakdown, fever, chills, malaise. Not all these symptoms occur with cellulitis. The immune response is impaired in the limb/area with lymphedema or lymph stasis so infections can progress rapidly and can become life-threatening if not treated quickly and appropriately. The lymphedema specialists at Lymphedema Therapy are experienced in diagnosing and treating cellulitis infections. Arm Lymphedema PhotosOther Lymphedema Pictures
